Wine Regions in Spain. The “Denominaciones de Origen”.

mapa-do_2.jpgToday’s topic is about the huge diversity of distinct wine-producer areas in Spain. I don’t want to get technical about this topic I just want to show you at a glance the diversity of Spanish wines you can choose, what I think it makes spanish wines even more special. But as always, your last choice is yours.

Click the link Map DO pdf to download a free Map in PDF of Wine Regions and Denominaciones de Origen in Spain cortesy of ICEX (Instituto de Comercio Exterior) and Wine from Spain.

Spain is the third largest producer of wine in the world, the largest being Italy and France.

Wine regions in Spain are known as “Denominaciones de Origen” (to make it more familiar for you is like the French appellation). The Demominación de Origen system is controlled by INDO – Instituto Nacional de Denominaciones de Origen. INDO, under the direction of The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, administers the D.O. (Denominacion de Origen) system.

Finally D.O. is similar like appellation.

Samuel:
How nice to come across your blog. I am a member of the Society of Wine Educators and a few weeks ago I had the good fortune of attending a 2 1/2 days seminar in Vancouver BC, sponsored by them and given by the Wine Academy of Spain. Pancho Campo, the president of the Wine Academy led the seminar and what an eyeopener that experience has been. I am now a confirmed fan of Spanish wines. I have a blog in which I will be covering the subject, I write a column and I have an email newsletter. This Tuesday I am leading a blind tasting of 8 Spanish wines with my tasting panel of 8 people. The results of the tasting I will cover in my newsletter. I am planning to do a trip of Spain next May with my friend from California. The Do map of the Wines from Spain is a real bonus to find. So thank you very much for that. I will visit your blog regularly to catch the latest. Muchos Gracias.
